Steps for
Building a Log Home
Here are some of the several steps for building a log
home that need to be finished before you move in. You may not need to
complete all of the steps below.
- Find a lender and apply for a land home purchase or
construction loan. Formulate a budget.
- Purchase your land.
- Choose one of our log home plans.
- Make a down payment on your log home. The down
payment must be at least $6000.
- Get permits to build.
- Start getting estimates from contractors you
plan to use.
- Assemble your estimates and send them to your
lender. This will be required for your home appraisal.
- Establish a delivery date for your log home based on
the scheduled completion of your foundation. Make sure your
contractor gets the work done on time.
- With your foundation and all contractors in
place, make your final payment for your new home upon delivery.
- Put your contractors to work.
The following items are tasks that may be completed by
you or contractors:
- Build your log home.
- Complete application of exterior and interior sealer to logs and
siding.
- Complete application of caulk to corners and to
exterior wall connection.
- Install HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning)
System. This includes natural gas / propane hook-up, furnace, air
conditioning, and duct work.
- Install plumbing and fixtures. This includes
water (may be well or public water supply hook-up), water softener, sewer (or
may be septic hook-up), rough plumbing, sinks, bath tubs, showers,
toilets, etc.
- Install wiring and fixtures. This includes
electric hook-up, rough wiring, lights, ceiling fans, phone, doorbells, etc.
- Install interior partition wall covering. This
includes drywall, paneling, tongue and groove, paint, stain, clear sealer,
etc.
- Install interior doors.
- Install interior trim.
- Install cabinets and countertops for kitchen, bath, etc.
- Finish floors.
- Install fireplace or wood stove.
- Install various appliances.
- Install gutters.
- Build garage.
- Complete driveway.
- Complete landscaping. This includes grass,
trees, shrubs, pool, etc.
